Counselors

Wendy Chen

Hello everyone! My name is Wendy Chen, and I am a college and career counselor. I was born and raised on the Lower East Side. I graduated from Stony Brook University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. I’ve always enjoyed working closely with students, and that joy led me to pursue my master's in education to become a licensed school counselor, along with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. As a first-generation college student, I found myself drawn to understanding the challenges faced by other first-gen and immigrant students in higher education. This passion led me to complete an advanced certificate in college advising at Columbia, focusing on educational and social disparities. I served as a lead college and career advisor at a nonprofit, where I taught multiple college seminar classes and supported students — especially undocumented youth — in securing full-ride scholarships and gaining admission to their dream schools. When I transition to the DOE, I continue this work at a Title I high school in Queens as a college counselor and now at Bronx Compass High School. Lastly, I am a pizza connoisseur! In my free time, I enjoy pretending that 10k steps is a full workout and love going on food adventures. I’m beyond excited and grateful to work with students and empower individuals towards great success!

Scott Edwards

My name is Scott Edwards (you can call me Scott) and I am the school social worker for Bronx Compass.
I have been working with high school students and young adults my entire career and have been at Bronx Compass since 2014. I received my Bachelors in Psychology at NYU before working in the field of youth development with City Year in San Jose, CA and East Harlem. Following my time at City Year, I went to the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College to become a licensed social worker and joined the staff at Bronx Compass following graduate school.
My passion is to support young people with their mental health as they navigate through some of the toughest years of their lives so they can enter adulthood learning how to love themselves and continue moving toward their goals.
Stop by the Student Support Center in 399 and say hi!
